Here's a nice discovery: the large and growing collection of World Film Locations books. They began publishing in Bristol, England, in 2011, and over 45 cities are represented so far. The books are slim at under 130 pages, and small, about the size of a tablet notebook, so are easy to carry and consult on your travels. I have volumes on New York, Paris and Prague, and packed two more for a trip to Italy over the summer: one on Venice and, new to the collection, one on Rome. I was glad I did. With maps and descriptive essays, movie stills and shots of how each location looks now, the books brought me to sites used in old favourites like Don't Look Now and new classics like The Great Beauty, among many others. They also sent me off in search of DVDs of obscure (to me) flicks like Bread & Tulips (with Bruno Ganz) and Ferzan Özpetek's Ignorant Fairies, many of which are unavailable outside Italy. Brilliant. You'll find the full series on Amazon.
